Description
I hope many find this to be non-trivial for under the context of troubleshooting, conformity, and condensing information – the "OS Release Files" under /etc/ are marvelous, priceless, and more uniform! Thank you!
For those reading this, /etc/ now has the following files (which other Linux distros use) to identify themselves as well as yield revision/build information:
{{[root@karshplooj ~]# ls -la /etc/*release
rw-rr- 1 root root 0 Jul 15 02:11 /etc/centos-release
rw-rr- 1 root root 245 Jul 6 05:24 /etc/os-release
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 Jul 13 08:01 /etc/redhat-release -> centos-release
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 Jul 13 08:01 /etc/system-release -> centos-release
}}
So, in short, one can reference any of the physical or symbolic links to determine the XenServer release/build number that is in use:
{{[root@karshplooj /]# more /etc/os-release
NAME="XenServer"
VERSION="6.6.80-102919c"
ID="xenenterprise"
ID_LIKE="centos rhel fedora"
VERSION_ID="6.6.80"
PRETTY_NAME="XenServer 6.6.80-102919c"
ANSI_COLOR="0;31"
HOME_URL="http://xenserver.org/"
BUG_REPORT_URL="https://bugs.xenserver.org/"
}}
Thank you.
